Ultrasound in Ovarian Pregnancy Diagnosis

Abstract

7 patients with ovarian pregnancy were examined with help of ultrasound. The age of patients ranged from 22 to 41 years old. Literature review (1989-2015) related to the problem of ovarian pregnancy ultrasound diagnosis was also done. According to the literature review and results of the study brief summary of ovarian pregnancy clinical and diagnostic characteristics was presented. Early diagnosis of ovarian pregnancy often allows choosing the organ-preserving surgery. Ultrasound signs of pelvis region in ovarian pregnancy were as follows: the absence of ovum in the uterus, free fluid in the pelvis, the lack of ovary visualization on the side of ovarian pregnancy or presence of enlarged ovary with markedly heterogeneous structure on the side of ovarian pregnancy with absence of any additional mass on the side of changed ovary. Ultrasound image of the ovarian pregnancy was presented as a typical ovum with live or dead embryo (typical for primary ovarian pregnancy), broad echogenic ring with echonegative content (typical for primary ovarian pregnancy), ovary which had intimately (deforming ovary) adjacent mass of irregular shape and heterogeneous structure, forming a single conglomerate with the ovary (typical for secondary ovarian pregnancy), irregularly shape and non-uniform mass (bigger than normal ovary) surrounded by the free fluid (blood imbibition of the ovary with rupture and intraperitoneal hemorrhage).
