Congenital Heart Disease: Multiple Atrial Septal Defects

Abstract

Case report of congenital multiple secundum atrial septal defects in 30 years old patient is described. Multiple (double) atrial septal defects were diagnosed by transesophageal echocardiography. Transthoracic echocardiography failed to visualize defects because of inadequate acoustic window. The exact size of defects (more than 40 mm) and their localization (adjacent to aorta) were determined by three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography. Surgical closure of atrial septal defects using autologous pericardium was done.
